VOLUNTEERS
We would like to get some idea of the various volunteer jobs done by current members. Please tell us, in the Guestbook or Forum, if you are, just to give a few instances, on the PCC or finance committee of your church or other place of worship, an active supporter of a political party (we don't ask which), help to care for or entertain elderly people on a volunteer basis, serve on your local council or residents' association committee, as an official of a club or association and so on. Lots of us lead very busy lives in " retirement" with fingers in more than one voluntary pie.
If you don't do any of these things, or even if you do but still have some time to spare would you consider volunteering for the Steering Group of the Research Network? Most of the present members of the Group have done the job for all the five years we have been in existence and some of them would like to take a break. Apart from that it would provide a real stimulus to the continued health of the Network if new people with new ideas (and a willingness to implement them) would join us. If you want to discuss this, talk it over in confidence with Nick Phillips the present chairman of the Group. You can email him at nphillips@research-network.org.uk or phone him at the number given in the last membership directory.

Peter Bartram has a new website where he displays many of the paintings he has done over the years. A link to his site is below. A short article on this site, and some examples of his work, appeared in the Summer Newsletter. This and his other main activities are real proof that there is ' life after market research'. Let us know how you spend your time! Come on all you potters, climbers, golfers, gardeners, embroiderers, dressmakers, photographers,,,, Have we left anyone out?

A GOOD EXAMPLE TO US ALL! Dawn Lowe-Watson, the widow of the late David, is a successful writer. She was kind enough to write an interesting entry in the guestbook. We would ask members to do this as well. You can also find out more about Dawn's work including her many Radio 4 plays and her novels at http://web.ukonline.co.uk/suttonelms/DLW.HTML Here is a non-member bringing us interesting news - how about some of you doing the same? |
| Please let us have your news soon, as the following members have done. It doesn't have to be world-shaking but just something you would like to share with other members. A new category of Link has just been started (see LINKS page) including websites started by alumni of individual companies beginning with Quantime. |
FOR SALE AND WANTED . No one has made use of this facility so it has been withdrawn. It can be reinstated on request.

PUBLIC COMMENT FROM NETWORK MEMBERS
James Adams (Jimmy) wrote a letter to the BBC and others about the topical subject of online petitions. You can read his letter in the FORUM and give him or the community in general your reactions to it. It perhaps raises the general question of whether we as a Network should comment collectively on such issues and thereby make more impact than we would as individuals.
