Concern over US census changes
Thursday, September 18th, 2025
Research Live reports that The Insights Association, Nielsen, the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and others are warning against changes to federal funding legislation that could dramatically reduce response rates on Census Bureau surveys.
The proposed measures prohibit funding to ”enforce involuntary compliance, or to inquire more than twice for voluntary compliance with any survey conducted by the Bureau of the Census”. In a letter, the organisations claim such legislation “could see the US census and American Community Survey (ACS) counting barely a third of the country”, with adverse economic impacts across the country.
