Social Events 2021

We are hopeful that we may be able to re-start our face-to-face events with a Summer Party in July or August, but this will be dependent on lifting of Covid-19 restrictions and the progress of the pandemic. We are pausing our 2021 Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks) for the summer, but will be re-starting them in September with a talk by Ruth McNeil.

Details of our NED Talks and our provisional lunch plans for 2021 are listed below, but are subject to change. Further information will be provided in due course. Please put the dates in your diary. Invitations with full details will be sent to members approximately 4-6 weeks before each event.

Pictures of face-to-face events will be added to the gallery shortly after each event has taken place.

NED Talk 11

Wednesday 22nd September at 17:30.
Ruth McNeil: ‘William Heath Robinson, the man, his art and museum’.

(see below for full details)

NED Talks 2021

Next NED Talk:  Wednesday 22nd September at 17:30. Ruth McNeil: 'William Heath Robinson, the man, his art and museum'.

The Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks) are our response to the COVID crisis and enforced cancellation of our face-to-face events. These are early evening Zoom meetings, lasting about an hour and a half, with a speaker talking about a topic of general interest for approx. 30 minutes, followed by discussion and a general chat.

The NED Talks are free to attend and non-members can join as your guests if Gill is notified in advance. More information on the content of the Talks will be provided in the invitations that will be sent out nearer the time.

The 2021 NED Talks organised to date are as follows:

NED Talk 6: Tuesday 19th January, at 17:30. Neil Mc Phee: 'Musicology as a Socio-Cultural Journey... A Personal Timeline'.

NED Talk 7: Wednesday 17 February at 17:30. Phil Barnard: ‘A village on Exmoor’.

NED Talk 8: Wednesday 24th March, at 17:30. Sheila Byfield: ‘The dark and the lighter sides of advertising’.

NED Talk 9: Wednesday 21st April at 17:30. Graham Woodham: ‘Non-Verbal Communication – The Subtleties of Social Interactions’

NED Talk 10: Wednesday 19 May at 17:30. Simon Chadwick:  Through the looking glass darkly. What the hell is wrong with America?'

NED Talk 11: Wednesday 22nd September at 17:30. Ruth McNeil: 'William Heath Robinson, the man, his art and museum'.

Summer Party 2021

Venue:  Doggetts Coat and Badge

Location: 1 Blackfriars Bridge Road, London SE1 9UD

Doggetts Coat and Badge website

We originally moved the Summer Party booking at Doggetts from early July to mid-August in the hope that the situation with COVID would improve sufficiently to enable us to hold this event. Unfortunately, the uncertainty created by the impact of the Delta variant on infection rates, the Government’s complete relaxation of all restrictions on 19 July and a requirement to give Doggetts at least 4 weeks’ notice of cancellation means that we cannot reasonably go ahead with a party in mid-August.  We hope to be able to return to Doggetts in 2021.

Autumn Lunch 2021

Venue:  The Savile Club

Location: 69 Brook Street, Mayfair, London W1K 4ER

Date:  Thursday 14th October 2021

The Savile Club website

We have re-scheduled our planned Autumn Lunch at the Savile Club for October 2021.  This is very kindly being sponsored by Bryan Bates, who is a club member. We last visited the club to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. This year will be our 19th Anniversary and and our Autumn Lunch promises to be an equally special occasion.

The Savile Club is situated in a beautiful 18th Century house in the heart of Mayfair, a short walk from Bond Street tube station. We will have drinks in the Drawing Room, followed by a three-course lunch in the stunningly beautiful Ballroom, which is reached by an elegant curved staircase. Level access is available if required.  Again, this will depend on Covid-19, but we are optimistic that the situation will have greatly improved by then.

AGM & Christmas Party 2021

Venue:  Details to be announced

We are looking forward to (hopefully) being able to hold our Christmas Drinks and AGM as usual in 2021.  If a face-to-face meeting is not possible, this will be a virtual event as in 2020. Further information will be provided in due course.
