Social Events 2023

We will be holding our regular face-to-face events in 2023, starting with our Spring Lunch in late April. We also plan to continue with our popular virtual Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks), hopefully on a quarterly basis.

Details of events, venues and dates will be finalised 3-4 months before each event and posted on this page. Please keep checking back for further formation.

Invitations with full details will be sent to members approximately 4-6 weeks before each event.

Pictures of face-to-face events will be added to the gallery after each event has taken place.

Details of our full programme of social events for 2024 will be published shortly.

NED Talks 2023/24

Next NED Talk:  Wednesday 14th February 2024 at 17.30pm. Speaker: Graham Woodham. '33 Years of a parallel French life'.

The Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks) are early evening Zoom meetings, lasting about an hour and a half, with a speaker talking about a topic of general interest for approx. 30 minutes, followed by discussion and a general chat.

The NED Talks are free to attend and non-members can join as your guests if Gill is notified in advance. More information on the content of the Talks will be provided in the invitations that will be sent out nearer the time.

Ned Talk 16:  Wednesday 15th November at 17:30. Speaker: Chris Martin. 'Rowing the Atlantic and Pacific oceans'.

Chris is a world record setting adventurer and former-international rower. He rowed the Atlantic solo and was the first to row the North Pacific as a pair. Chris will speak candidly about the challenges he overcame during his solo Atlantic trip, then cover the reasons for returning to the ocean for his second voyage on the Pacific.

NED Talk 17: Wednesday 14th February 2024 at 17.30pm. Speaker: Graham Woodham. '33 Years of a parallel French life'

Graham will tell us the story of his family's slow renovation of a farmhouse surrounded by vines, their warm welcome and long-term friendship with their wine and cognac making neighbours, including the many fun and quirky aspects of a rural lifestyle just north of Bordeaux.

Brigade is a lovely restaurant in the old Fire Station in Tooley Street. It is very easy to get to from London Bridge Station and is fully accessible. We had hoped to go to Brigade in 2021, but Covid intervened and we are delighted to be going back there again.  The food features British classics with a modern twist.

The restaurant is built with a social purpose in mind, and offers training opportunities to vulnerable people or those who have fallen on hard times. One of their trainees recently went from living on the streets to a permanent job as a chef at The Savoy.

This event is very kindly being sponsored by Teneo Translations UK Ltd.  Teneo was founded by its MD Chris Barella and provides professional translation and interpreting services internationally. We are extremely grateful to them for their generosity.

Our Summer Party will be once again be held in the Terrace Bar at Doggetts Coat and Badge, by Blackfriars Bridge. The sunny terrace has a stunning view of the river and there is plenty of space indoors if we are unlucky with the weather.

As always, this is an informal event, giving members ample opportunity to mingle with old friends and meet new ones, over a drink or two and a plate of pub food.

We will have a glass of Pimms on arrival and a buffet lunch. Other drinks can be purchased from the bar. Members are encouraged to bring a guest who might consider becoming a member to enjoy the day with you.

Our Autumn Lunch will be held in the very comfortable, self-contained, private rooms at the side of the main restaurant. We last visited Brasserie Blanc, Southbank in 2019 and are delighted to be returning.

There is a private bar where people can chat before the lunch, then we will have a set 3-course lunch in the private dining room next to the bar. The main entrance is down a short flight of steps and through restaurant and there is level access to the private rooms at the side by request.

Please do bring a guest who might consider becoming a member to enjoy this lovely venue with you.
