Social Events 2021

We will be re-starting our face-to-face events with our Autumn Lunch in October and are hoping to hold our Christmas Party and AGM face-to-face as usual in December, provided further Covid-19 restrictions are not put in place. We are continuing with our virtual Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks) till the end of the year, with a talk by Danny Wain scheduled for November.

Details of our 2021 NED Talks and planned lunches and Christmas drinks are listed below. Please put the dates in your diary. Invitations with full details will be sent to members approximately 4-6 weeks before each event. We hope to resume our regular face-to-face events in 2022. Further information will be provided in due course.

Pictures of face-to-face events will be added to the gallery shortly after each event has taken place.

NED Talks 2021

Next NED Talk:  Wednesday 22nd September at 17:30. Ruth McNeil: 'William Heath Robinson, the man, his art and museum'.

The Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks) are our response to the COVID crisis and enforced cancellation of our face-to-face events. These are early evening Zoom meetings, lasting about an hour and a half, with a speaker talking about a topic of general interest for approx. 30 minutes, followed by discussion and a general chat.

The NED Talks are free to attend and non-members can join as your guests if Gill is notified in advance. More information on the content of the Talks will be provided in the invitations that will be sent out nearer the time.

The 2021 NED Talks organised to date are as follows:

NED Talk 6: Tuesday 19th January, at 17:30. Neil Mc Phee: 'Musicology as a Socio-Cultural Journey... A Personal Timeline'.

NED Talk 7: Wednesday 17 February at 17:30. Phil Barnard: ‘A village on Exmoor’.

NED Talk 8: Wednesday 24th March, at 17:30. Sheila Byfield: ‘The dark and the lighter sides of advertising’.

NED Talk 10: Wednesday 19 May at 17:30. Simon Chadwick:  Through the looking glass darkly. What the hell is wrong with America?'

NED Talk 11: Wednesday 22nd September at 17:30. Ruth McNeil: 'William Heath Robinson, the man, his art and museum'.

NED Talk 12: Wednesday 10th November at 17:30. Danny Wain: ‘Shouting in the Evenings’

Summer Party 2021

Venue:  Doggetts Coat and Badge

Location: 1 Blackfriars Bridge Road, London SE1 9UD

Date: CANCELLED

Doggetts Coat and Badge website

CANCELLED IN VIEW OF COVID-19 VIRUS

We originally moved the Summer Party booking at Doggetts from early July to mid-August in the hope that the situation with COVID would improve sufficiently to enable us to hold this event. Unfortunately, the uncertainty created by the impact of the Delta variant on infection rates, the Government’s complete relaxation of all restrictions on 19 July and a requirement to give Doggetts at least 4 weeks’ notice of cancellation means that we cannot reasonably go ahead with a party in mid-August.  We hope to be able to return to Doggetts in 2021.

BOOKINGS NOW BEING TAKEN

We are delighted to announce that we are going ahead with our planned Autumn Lunch at the Savile Club on 14th October. Our visit to the Club has been re-scheduled from last year and is very kindly being sponsored by Bryan Bates, who is a club member. We last visited the club to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. This year will be our 19th Anniversary and and our Autumn Lunch promises to be an equally special occasion.

The Savile Club is situated in a beautiful 18th Century house in the heart of Mayfair, a short walk from Bond Street tube station (take the Gilbert Street exit from the station). We will have drinks in the Drawing Room, followed by a three-course lunch in the stunningly beautiful Ballroom, which is reached by an elegant curved staircase. Level access is available if required.  Book now to ensure your place.
