NED Talks 2026
Next NED Talk: Tuesday 10th February 2025 at 5.30pm. Speaker: David McCallum.
The Network Evening Drinks (NED Talks) are early evening Zoom meetings, lasting about an hour and a half, with a speaker talking about a topic of general interest for approx. 30 minutes, followed by discussion and a general chat. The NED Talks are free to attend and non-members can join as your guests if Gill is notified in advance. More information on the content of the Talks will be provided in the invitations that will be sent out nearer the time.
NED Talk 20: Tuesday 10th February, at 17.30pm. Speaker: David McCallum: “Songwriters of the 20th Century" - Creating and Presenting a Music Radio Show (..or how, post-career, I slowed down my brain from ossification)”
David will tell us about his switch of career: from market research - to taking a BA in Music and Songwriting - to presenting a weekly programme – 'Songwriters of the 20th Century' – on local radio, Radio Northern Beaches, in Australia. He will outline what caused him to change direction, why and what he chose to present, how he puts the programmes together, how the station promotes itself, who the audience might be, and what he gets out of it.

NED Talk 21: Wednesday 25th March at 17.30pm. Speaker: Peter Bartram: The Life in Research
Peter will give us some recollections and insights on the many changes in the research world over the years, loosely based on his book ‘The Life in Research’.
Spring Lunch 2026

Ev is part of the Tas group of Turkish restaurants, serving delicious Anatolian cuisine, which we have visited several times in the past. It is situated in Isabella Street, a delightful, plant filled pedestrian street near Southwark tube station.
Ev occupies three large railway arches, with our lunch being held in the bar arch. There is a lovely terrace outside with lots of greenery, which we can use for drinks if the weather is nice. It is a great place for a Spring get-together.
Summer Party 2026

Our Summer Party venue is once again the Terrace Bar on the 3rd floor of Doggetts Coat and Badge, at the south end of Blackfriars Bridge. As its name suggests, the Terrace Bar has a large, sunny terrace with stunning views of the river and there is plenty of space in the bar area indoors.
Our Summer Party is an informal event, giving members ample opportunity to mingle with old friends and meet new ones, over a drink or two and a plate of pub food.
Autumn Lunch 2026

Casa do Frango is a Portuguese restaurant and is a new venue for our Autumn Lunch. The restaurant is situated in Southwark Street, very close to Borough Market and very easy to get to from London Bridge station.
Our lunch will be held in the ground floor restaurant, which is a lovely, open airy space with plenty of room for socialising. We have their excellent tapas-style 'feasting menu', with a selection of dishes to suit all tastes.
