Polls as accurate as ever but confidence has dropped, says Lords committee

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

A House of Lords committee has found that opinion polling is no less accurate than in the past, reflecting the findings of a study we reported earlier this month from the Universities of Southampton and Texas. What has changed, though, is public confidence in polling results. This loss of confidence, together with a “profound change” that digital media have wrought in the way news and opinions are obtained and shared, has serious implications for the risk of manipulation of findings and the publication of misleading information by factional interest groups.
